Addictions.

Hi, I’m Zen, and I’m addicted to Bingo. Not just any Bingo though, no… but the new Bingo game on Facebook. I usually try to stay far away from games on Facebook, especially due to my tendency to get addicted right away. I’ve gotten hooked on Tetris, Sims Social, Bejeweled Blitz and even Mafia Wars. Every time its gets to the extent that I’ll be checking the game every few minutes… before eventually I pull the plug on the game and block it so that I don’t feel tempted to try it again.

Recently I discovered schoolFeed on Facebook, and through that I found the Bingo game. I thought I’d try it out for a bit to see what it’s all about, even though a voice in my head was screaming at me not to click the button (and you, too, should never click that button if you know what’s good for you). At first it was fun, it reminded me of the time when I used to play Picture Bingo with my cousins. Then slowly as I advanced levels, I was reminded of how frustrated I was every time I was just one chip away from forming a straight line, and then someone else would win. But now I can’t stop! I keep telling myself that I’ll be able to make it in the next round, so I continue to play with card after card… only it’s too hopeless! And addictive.

Thankfully I get bored easily, so I’ll probably be cured of this addiction within two weeks at the most.

Honestly I’m no stranger to addictions… though my addictions are arguably good. I don’t drink, smoke or gamble, but I don’t know when to stop when it comes to chocolate, candy, books, cute things, stationery, writing and food in general. I lack a self-control mechanism. It’s surprising I’m not fat, really.

Lately I haven’t been able to satisfy my writing addiction, and it’s been itching me. Like really itching me, because I had promised myself not start anything new until I finish a WIP that has haunted me for more than four years. But just when I finally have inspiration, my computer crashes. Thankfully it’s fixed now, and I can start churning out those final few thousand words!

Thankfully, however, I’m well able to satisfy my chocolate cravings, and as I write this I’m indulging in a frothy latte and a pack of Oreos to celebrate the coming of the weekend.

There’s a lot more Oreos where that came from!

So… what are you addicted to? Do you consider your addictions healthy or not? Did this Bingo game (or any other Facebook game for that matter) suck anybody else?

  1. I don’t like to call it ‘addiction,’ I like to call it ‘Slightly Unhealthy Dedication to Something,’ aka, SUDS. It makes me feel all clean.

That said, games get me too, but they’re real games, not namby pamby Facebook games. I think that might actually be the only thing, but with the amount of time I spend, that’s enough.

However, I too am eating Oreos right now. So woot.

    1. I think I’ll be using SUDS from now on, makes it sound all the more better. And there’s nothing wrong with FB games yo! They’re nice. Simple, but fun. >.> And yay for Oreos!

      1. Eh. I played Cafe Word for a bit. And Castle Age, I think it was. I just couldn’t get into them very much. They got old pretty quick. =C We need to hook you up with some proper stuff.

But more importantly, I need more Oreos, I only have four left. =C

        1. I would love to play other games yo! I just need to find them. =[ And I would loves to share Oreos with you!

    1. You know I’ve been avoiding Pinterest because I’m positive I would get addicted to it! I’ve been successful so far, haha.

  2. I like the games on Facebook that stop me, I run out of points or whatever. I won’t buy them and they don’t refill for hours. It helps keep me from falling too far down the rabbit hole.

    1. I’ve tried those games! Unfortunately I end up refreshing every hour (or half an hour) to see if it has refilled if even for a bit, haha.

  3. Excellent that you only have good addictions. Nowadays it’s quite hard to find someone with healthy habits with respect to smoking and drinking!
Your addictions indeed have positive effects over other people as well. Only if you write, can we read your articles! I hope that you do not get bored of this addiction… 😉

  4. I’m also addicted to coffee and chocolate!!! I’m also addicted to 9GAG, but it’s getting frustrating. All I do is scroll, scroll, scroll…
There is actually a Facebook game I’m addicted on, Tetris! Even when I’m not playing I would be rearranging blocks in my head. I also got my mom addicted to it in the process.
Generally addictions are unhealthy, as they prevent you from being productive, but I say that coffee and chocolate are the only healthy addictions…

    1. Chocolate is THE best addiction ever. And it’s definitely healthy. I approve. I have been addicted to Tetris too! But after a while I tore myself away from it… I was getting too obsessed for my own good, haha.
      Thank you for the comment!

  5. I tend not to think in addictions, rather in obsessions. And to be honest, almost 98% of the time they’re massively healthy (and not in the gym-workout-obsession way). They give me drive and joy and they have the ability to hold me together when nothing else can. I can be obsessed easily with any of the following: books, TV, writing, drawing, characters from any of the former. And they flex and change and keep me interested.

To be honest, I think my obsessions are what have kept me off Prozac all these years, so thank god for them, say I.

    1. Haha, if they’ve done that, then they’re anything but unhealthy! Addictions like yours keep one busy enough to never need something like Prozac.

  6. Woah. TheSims. I use to be a sims addict (3 years clean). I wouldn’t play unless I could dedicate at least ten hours….and I always could. I called out ‘sick’ from work multiple times, and designed sims to look like celebs I’ll never meet or be friends with in real life….

I’m also addicted to never answering my phone.

    1. Wow. That’s dedication! I was addicted to The Sims, but not to that extent, haha. But I can definitely see the appeal in what you did!
And that’s an interesting addiction… not much of a people person?
      Thanks for the comment!

  7. I don’t have addictions. I do, however have obsessions. When it comes to coffee, I wonder if someone grabbed jumper cables instead, if that might work better some days. 😉

  8. Lately, I’m addicted to Oreos! My name is Cassie, and it’s been 12 hours since I’ve had an oreo (Thank you, Dairy Queen oreo blizzard…)

Because of your blog reminding me that they can be a celebratory snack, I might have to relapse in the name of the Fourth of July…Uh, oh. 🙂

    1. Haha, Oreos are great! I sometimes go for significant periods of time without them, then I “rediscover” them again and splurge!
And you should most definitely have a celebratory snack. =D

  9. Zen, You had me on Oreo’s and chocolate! LOL!

No, seriously, I think most “addictions” are actually healthy “obsessions,” which nurture our true lifelong “passions.” 🙂

    1. Haha, I like to think of them that way too! They’re nothing wrong with obsessing over the yummy and fun things in life. =D
