Going for nearly three years without a proper vacation can do terrible things to someone’s mental health, especially if that particular someone is a workaholic. So during the month of April, I went away on vacation… which would explain my long absence from the blogosphere. It was something I desperately needed, at a time when I was dealing with a lot of personal issues and work was starting to take its toll on me.
I went to UAE for 20 days during which I stayed with one of my best friends. We had a blast I swear. It was so much fun, so amazing, that it was difficult to imagine anything else. When I woke up in my own room after I came back, it took me a moment to register that I was not in my friend’s place anymore, especially since I’d come to consider it home more than anywhere else. When things hit you hardest, you treat yourself. Or at least, that’s what I think you should do.
I didn’t have the greatest of weeks. Though things are a bit better now, if I had known that this week is going to be this bad I would’ve gone back to the week referred to a post I put up at the beginning of March and called it acceptable. But I guess that’s besides the point right now. I’m on the road to recovery right now, and hopefully it’s a smooth ride.

I wish I could tell you that I deeply enjoyed every one of these things. I wish I could describe the exact flavours. But I can’t. I have a bad cold, and my taste buds are failing me. I could only just barely register the taste of the dark chocolate base used in the Chocolate Cheesecake… and I struggled with everything else. It was really disappointing. 😦 I also bought some macaroons (which got a bit smashed in the bag and are thus not worthy of a picture), but I haven’t eaten them yet – I at least want to enjoy those!
Have you had any sweet things lately? Care to share? Is anybody else but me suffering from this bad weather that seems to be spreading everywhere? *sneezes*
I’ve been having a less than stellar week, some bad things happened that culminated with the loss of my tablet, the one I use for reading eBooks. To say I was upset would be understatement; I went to bed and cried into my pillow for a bit after the incident happened. I’m coming to terms with it now, and I’m already looking for a (cheaper) replacement as I’ve completely given up hope on retrieving it.
So today I decided to treat myself, and those who read my blog know that there’s no better way to cheer me up than with books and sweets! Yes, folks, it’s time for one of those posts again. I’m thinking it should be a regular segment on this blog! 😉
I discovered that we have the Magnolia Bakery here in Lebanon (I’m guessing some of my American readers will recognize the name). As is the case with any new discovery, I tend to splurge. My sister and I shared a slice of red velvet cake, a Snickers icebox pie with cream cheese frosting, a mini caramel pecan cheesecake, a mini white chocolate macadamia nut cheesecake and finally, a cheese marbled brownie. I was on a sugar high.

Magnolia Bakery description: made red with cocoa, vanilla and a little southern mystery, with its own special whipped vanilla icing. This one was waaay too sweet. I love red velvet, but the buttercream frosting was overwhelming!
Classic, moist brownie with a cheesy twist! Very very good.
Let it be known that I am absolutely biased when it comes to Macadamia. It’s one of my absolute favourite nuts. I really loved this one too!
This was exquisite. Buttery, smooth and absolutely delicious. I melted upon the first bite.

Last year I said something about the need for birthdays to be official holidays. I would like to amend that statement a bit, because my wish was granted – or rather, twisted a bit – this year. Rather than be a holiday of its own, my birthday fell on an actual (lunar) holiday, and that was a bit annoying. It’s kinda like having a birthday on Christmas; everybody’s so busy with everything they don’t have time for the birthday boy or girl, and that’s sad-making. So… bottom line; birthdays should be official holidays, AND should not fall on official holidays. There has to be some law regarding that.
From the above and other miscellaneous things that happened, you might’ve guessed that my actual birthday wasn’t so good, so I decided to have a birthday week instead. Yep, you heard me – I spent the entire week doing things in the name of my birthday! You will notice an underlying theme in the pictures below. 😉 Click for captions!

I feel like I need to apologize again for being so MIA these past couple of months. Every time I try to be active again I end up getting caught in something else. During the last two weeks I’ve had to design more than 20 characters and come up with five storylines, and I cannot begin to tell you how tiring that has been. Even moreso when I developed Writer’s Block – a very inopportune time! I promise to get back into the swing of things soon. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. =[

It doesn’t feel like it’s been a year since I made a post like this one, but the 13th of the September has come around again and I would not be a true chocoholic if I didn’t blog about it and celebrate it in style. I wasn’t so extravagant last year, merely picking up some old favourites from the grocery store close to my home, but this year I sort of splurged… and not only on chocolate.
This year’s International Chocolate Day was a little extra special because two of my coworkers turned out to be chocoholics, and I was able to share my excitement with someone who truly understood! It also helps that one of them brought a box of yummy assorted chocolates to the office. 😉 But I still needed my fix though! So after work I went out and bought the following Lindt bars. My favourite of the three by far is the Vanilla Almond. I practically swooned when I bit into it.
My default modes during the last couple of week have ranged between excited, stressed, busy and just plain out frazzled. I’ve also gone through short bouts of total confusion, but those generally tend to come up after I’ve fallen victim to that evil, unproductive thing known as sleep.
Mostly, however, I have been excited. It bears repeating, but I am really excited that I will finally be able to reveal the video game I’ve been working on next week. So many things have happened already, and every time a character of mine transforms into lines and colours instead of mere images in my head, my excitement levels rise to dangerous levels. When it comes to celebrating, I tend to go for chocolate and all kinds of different desserts. The most important thing to me is stuffing myself full of sugar in order to perfectly savour my celebratory moment. However, I realised I’d been overlooking one very important treat – ice cream.
I have had reason to celebrate recently. Some of you have seen me complain about work, and the past few weeks have been so rough and stressful, and I’ve fallen behind on everything from reading to blogging… but all that should change very soon. I’m happy to report that today I signed a contract for a brand new (and very fantastic) job as a game writer. Squee. Instead of spending eight hours a day slaving over laws and legal documents, I now get to write a story, complete with dialogue, character backgrounds, etc. and get paid for it. How cool is that?
To celebrate this joyous event, I went and treated myself to four scoops of ice cream – dark chocolate, caramel wafer, crème caramel and tiramisu – topped with caramel sauce and chocolate chips. It was all so delicious and nice to have on such a hot day, and I was simply in heaven. However, it was incredibly sweet. Next time I’m going for fruity flavours!
Okay, okay, I’ll come clean – I’m not here to talk about ice cream; I’m merely using that as a thin disguise to tell you about my job. I was never good at being subtle, but I’m just so happy and excited right now!

That’s just wrong on so many levels. Pizza is the kind of sustenance that you need to get right. You just can’t give the client something they didn’t order and expect them to go along with it! I was craving pizza today, and even though I have some ready-made pizza dough at home that I could’ve layered with some toppings and stuck in the oven, there’s something “special” about ordering a pizza and having it delivered to your home steaming and ready for eating.
I went with an extra cheesy Margherita and waited impatiently until it arrived. When the delivery boy, I snatched it a little too eagerly out of his hands, paid him and sent him off on his way. It was just me and my pizza! I got a tall glass of Pepsi and opened the box, only to be met with disappointment.
What was supposed to be a large Margherita ended up being a vegetarian pizza that looked anything but large. The next few moments were spent in contemplation. I could:
a) call the pizza place and demand a new pizza.
b) call the pizza place, demand a refund and make my own pizza.
Between chocolate withdrawals, near-death escapes, power outages, work and technology’s attempts on my life – namely through locking me up in an elevator by myself for nearly thirty minutes – I have not had much time to blog, so it’s always fun when somebody tags you to answer a few things about yourself. Who doesn’t like to talk about themselves? 😉
I can hear shrieks of “The world is coming to an end!” and “We’re doomed!”, and like you I understand the gravity of the situation and recognize its serious implications, but I assure you there’s no need to worry. This is not permanent, and I fully intend to resume my duties as a chocoholic and connoisseur of all things sweet in a couple of weeks’ time. I have done this before, albeit it being for 10 days, and everything turned out fine.
I have not been blackmailed or challenged or threatened at gunpoint; no, I have simply realised that my chocolate consumption – which has increased in the last couple of months due to all the stress at work – has caused me to gain a few undesirable pounds that I would really like to lose.
