It doesn’t feel like it’s been a year since I made a post like this one, but the 13th of the September has come around again and I would not be a true chocoholic if I didn’t blog about it and celebrate it in style. I wasn’t so extravagant last year, merely picking up some old favourites from the grocery store close to my home, but this year I sort of splurged… and not only on chocolate.
This year’s International Chocolate Day was a little extra special because two of my coworkers turned out to be chocoholics, and I was able to share my excitement with someone who truly understood! It also helps that one of them brought a box of yummy assorted chocolates to the office. 😉 But I still needed my fix though! So after work I went out and bought the following Lindt bars. My favourite of the three by far is the Vanilla Almond. I practically swooned when I bit into it.
When it comes to celebrating, I tend to go for chocolate and all kinds of different desserts. The most important thing to me is stuffing myself full of sugar in order to perfectly savour my celebratory moment. However, I realised I’d been overlooking one very important treat – ice cream.
I have had reason to celebrate recently. Some of you have seen me complain about work, and the past few weeks have been so rough and stressful, and I’ve fallen behind on everything from reading to blogging… but all that should change very soon. I’m happy to report that today I signed a contract for a brand new (and very fantastic) job as a game writer. Squee. Instead of spending eight hours a day slaving over laws and legal documents, I now get to write a story, complete with dialogue, character backgrounds, etc. and get paid for it. How cool is that?
To celebrate this joyous event, I went and treated myself to four scoops of ice cream – dark chocolate, caramel wafer, crème caramel and tiramisu – topped with caramel sauce and chocolate chips. It was all so delicious and nice to have on such a hot day, and I was simply in heaven. However, it was incredibly sweet. Next time I’m going for fruity flavours!
Okay, okay, I’ll come clean – I’m not here to talk about ice cream; I’m merely using that as a thin disguise to tell you about my job. I was never good at being subtle, but I’m just so happy and excited right now!
Do you celebrate with ice cream or cake? Or something else altogether? Have you ever worked as a game writer before? What was the experience like?
“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – the White Queen, Alice in Wonderland.
The White Queen knows what she’s talking about, that really is a good habit to practice. On days that are exceptionally bleak, it helps to have some positives to hold on to during the day. I don’t usually have breakfast, so let’s pretend the White Queen said lunch instead of breakfast, shall we?
1. The day will come when I don’t have to wake up at ungodly hours of the morning. It’s no secret that I love to sleep, and who doesn’t really? The thing I dread the most about my day job is dragging myself out of my warm bed when sleep still has a vice-grip on me. It’s very unlikely, but I do dream of the day when I’m leading a cosy enough life that allows me to stay in bed however long I want. One can dream. I was getting ready for bed last night when I get an email notification from WordPress. I click it open, thinking it must be a comment or a reply, but to my immense joy (and shock, mind you) it was an email telling me this post got Freshly Pressed! I couldn’t believe it actually, and I had to read the email twice for the message to register.
Then I squealed so loudly I nearly woke everyone up.The sleepiness was completely gone, and I admit it took me some to be able to sleep after all the excitement, haha. Sadly I didn’t have any Twix to celebrate with, but I commemorated the event with a yummy chocolate cake!
When I started this blog, I had no idea that I’d get to meet so many new people, read so many interesting things and actually pick up some tips here and there. With my previous blogs, I hadn’t properly grasped the concept of blogging and was only interested in getting my words out there, but now I’ve learned that blogging is a relationship that involves hard work and willingness to give back.
And today I want to give back something that is dear to me. Some of you may know that I recently published my first book, Puppet Parade, and it has been a great experience so far. I love this book, and today I would like to share it with some of you! Three of you, to be precise.
