2014 in Reading

Last book of 2014!

2014 was many things… good, bad and ugly… but at least it did not throw any 1-star books at me! Of course a lot has changed in the course of this year, and I’ve had a lot to reflect upon… but the one constant has remained my love for reading (and determination to beat the Goodreads Reading Challenge). Around this time of year, I like to look at my stats and pick out the few that really stuck with me. And okay, okay, I’ve read some books that made me feel that I’ve wasted my time, but I still think I’ve had a pretty decent share of good ones, and I wrapped up the year with a pretty book (and some amazing sweets but that’s besides the point)! But first, let’s see how I checked out on the resolutions front!

DONE

  • I read 50 books in 2014! It was a close call, having finished the 50th book yesterday, but I made it!
  • I read one children’s novel and one middle grade novel and liked the latter more. That is important because the children’s one was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I wasn’t all that enamored by it.
  • I didn’t stop reading any books! On a roll for more than two years now!
  • I’ve written a review for every single book I read this year. I even went back and wrote reviews for some books I read years ago.
  • I was not lured by pretty covers. Well, I was lured by a book or two, but I think I improved!

2013 in Reading

I wanted to get this post out around the 1st of January, but unfortunately – owing to the fact that my I spent most of the first few days of 2014 suffering from a reoccurring bout of blindness and a break from all readable words – I couldn’t. Anyway, 2013 was quite productive reading-wise, but I’m ashamed to admit that I did not stick to all the reader’s resolutions I set for myself.

Resolutions checked:

  1. did read 40 books! But it was a very close call. I almost did not make it!
  2. I read one classic – Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I’d always read the abridged version and only got around to the full one now.  Continue reading “2013 in Reading”

A Reader’s Resolutions

I’m not one for resolutions. I’ve noticed that I always fail to meet them, whether it is to go to bed early, exercise more, cut down on chocolate (perish that thought!) or otherwise. However, I know I can’t go wrong if I’m doing something I enjoy; less chance of failure there. So for 2013, I shall make me some reading resolutions!

1. As has been the case for the last two years, this year I’m going to challenge myself to read a certain amount of books. In 2011 I went with 20 books, last year I went with 30, and this year I’m going to kick it up to 40. I know I’m not as ambitious as some other avid readers out there who read more than a 100 books per year, but I know my limits, and I know that I have stories of my own to write as well.
